The Current Proposal

The latest plans for 50 Government St. are for a building that, at 6 storeys, is higher and more dense than the proposal which was rejected by Council in December, 2024. The developer’s letter to Mayor and Council includes misleading claims, including that the building is lower than the previous iteration, which was submitted in April 2025.

The proposal ignores or inadequately addresses 4 out of 5 major design changes required by the Application Review Summary delivered to the proponent by the City Planning Office. Changes do nothing to improve the proposed buildings consistency with the objectives and guidelines associated with ‘General Form and Character.’

The current November 2025 plans are the ninth version presented to the public and the eighth version submitted to the Planning Office. 

The fact that the proponent has continuously resubmitted ‘out-of-compliance’ plans represents clear disregard for the rules and regulations of development and has wasted hours and days of staff and City Council’s time.  All that time wasted is funded by taxpayer dollars
